Our sensors

Each of our sensors have a different use case for monitoring different areas of the home. Here’s some handy FAQs to help you understand how each part of the Canary Care system works.

The Canary Care Hub is the heart of the system and connects your sensors to the cloud using a simple mobile-guided set up – as well as Wi-Fi, 4G, and Zigbee for improved reliability and range. It’s powered by your mains electricity via the Power Supply Unit.

If the Hub is ever unplugged from the sockets, or loses mains power, it has up to 24 hours of internal backup battery to keep your system running until the power is back on.

Our Multi-Function Sensors are perfect for monitoring general activity throughout the home, discreetly and effectively. With no microphones or cameras, you can track a vulnerable person’s motion – helping you spot changes in routine, reduced mobility, or night-time activity.

These sensors can be placed on the wall or ceiling of any room or hallway, with movements tracked straight into the Canary Care Portal.

Designed to be placed in bathrooms, our Humidity Sensors help you understand if someone is able to use the bath or the shower independently. When the humidity in the room increases and decreases, you’ll be notified in the Canary Care Portal.

Plus, placing the sensors around other areas of the home will help determine if the conditions could lead to damp or mould growth, which makes it easier for early intervention.

By placing a sensor on a drawer, or cupboard, you’ll get instant alerts when they’re accessed. So if someone you’re caring for needs to take medicine at a certain time each day, place them on the drawer you’re monitoring for that extra peace of mind. Plus, use them to monitor the use of chairs, beds, microwaves and more.

Our magnets allow any Multi-Function Sensor to turn into a Door Sensor, giving you even more discreet visibility. By attaching the sensor directly to the door, you can monitor when it opens, closes, as well as any patterns of entry. Not only can this help make sure someone is mobile enough to move from room to room, but if they leave the house through the front door, which is particularly concerning at night, you’ll be instantly notified in the Canary Care Portal.

Smart Plugs allow you to keep track of appliance usage. Simply insert the Smart Plug into a standard socket and plug in the appliance you want to monitor. Then set up usage alerts within the Canary Care Portal to see when the appliance was switched on or off, and how long for. They’re perfect for checking when someone has used the kettle to make a cup of tea or used the microwave to heat up some food.

Our packages will always come with enough batteries and contact strips for each of your sensors. Simply plug in the batteries and attach the sensors to a wall, door, or ceiling with the contact strips. Any future batteries or contact strips would need to be purchased separately. Our full installation step-by-step can be found in the Canary Care set-up app once your technology arrives, but in the meantime check out our simple guide.

No. Our technology has no cameras or microphones, but offers all the benefits of around-the-clock visibility.

We use a range of sensors – monitoring movement, temperature, vibration, and more – to give you a full picture of how someone’s getting on at home. If something doesn’t look quite right, you’ll be alerted straight away.

No. We pride ourselves on being non-intrusive so our most vulnerable can be independent safely, without sacrificing dignity.

Vulnerable people just have to live how they normally would, with the added comfort that their loved ones or carers can keep an eye on their routines, and be notified if anything changes.
